High Voltage Products

High voltage is extremely dangerous and requires people with intense knowledge to handle. For this reason, various high voltage products have been designed to help the experts handling these high voltages to carry out their duties safe and sound. For instance, an impulse current generator is an electrical device that produces high current surges associated with short high voltage. The impulse current generator is applied in various physical fields such as in plasma devices, thermonuclear fusion, lasers and also on tests on fuses and lightning arresters.

The impulse current generator contains a bank of capacitors with a voltage rating of fifty kilovolts and capacitance of 3.6 microfarads which is capable of being charged from a charging source or system of fifty volts direct current situated on a half-wave rectifier, resistors that are well shaped and non-inductively wound and a waveshaping inductor. In designing an impulse current generator, the IMC simulation program is employed. This program can calculate the parameters of the impulse current generator. These parameters are then computed using a method called the normalized calculation technique to obtain the final optimum values. This program, already developed, is advantageous in that it is more favorable for designing parameters and the time consumed is little.

Two options are provided for this program, capacitor value requirement with an input of charging voltage and energy rating requirement with current information that is rated. There is a particular range for capacitance value and voltage that the program can be, applied 0.1 to 10 microfarads for capacitance and ten kilovolts to one hundred kilovolts for voltage.

Other high voltage products include circuit breakers, bushings, coil products, surge arresters, gas-insulated switchgear, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, long-rod insulators and capacitors. Circuit breakers form the central region of gas-insulated, and air-insulated switchgear. High voltage circuit breakers are often mechanical in nature and are relays that allow and break the flow of current and also carry some small current in their closed position. A bushing is an insulated electrical device that permits a conductor to pass through a barrier that is earthed, for example, a circuit breaker or the walls of a transformer. A high voltage disconnect switch is used to de-energize a circuit for the purpose of maintenance or service. These switches are often found in industrial applications where every machine has a source that can be removed for adjustment or repair and in electrical distributions. An instrument transformer is used to transform current or voltage levels
